DescriptionOodgeroo Noonuccal (1920-1993), formerly Kath Walker, received the award of Doctor of the University in 1989. A Quandamooka woman of the Noonuccal peoples of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), Oodgeroo was a poet, environmentalist and educator whose social justice work gave rise to the 1967 referendum which was passed and improved the social standards for First Australians on a national level.
