My life at Griffith University

I am very fortunate to be a Griffith University Alumni 3-times over where I have completed Bachelor Degrees in Law, Environmental Science and Nursing.

I first left high school and was not sure what I wanted to do. After much deliberation and a few conversations with my dad who was an Academic (Doctorate, Lecturer and Tutor) in the Science Department at Nathan Campus, I ended up enrolling and successfully being accepted into the Double Degree of Bachelor of Law/Bachelor of Environmental Science also at Nathan Campus. I had a wonderful time at Nathan Campus (I saved a lot in transport costs with my dad still teaching and tutoring at the same university!) and was successful in not only completing my studies after 6 years but also practicing in Law and Environmental Science in the years following graduation - from working in law firms of small to large size, suburban and in Brisbane City to working for the Queensland Government.

I not only work in Law and Environmental Science over the years but also worked many years in other industries including Health (Aged Care, Disability), Venue and Event Management, and Sports Management. The constant through all this (even through COVID-19) was my passion for Community and Volunteering, specifically with Cancer Council Queensland (now involved for 9 years) plus the Starlight Children's Foundation Australia (currently in my 18th year and the longest serving Starlight Volunteer in the State of Queensland). This passion led me to enrol into my 3rd degree of a Bachelor of Nursing. Which university was I going to choose .... it was never going to be any other university besides Griffith University, this time at our Logan Campus. I was again successful in completing my 3rd Griffith University Degree as a Full-Time student whilst juggling multiple casual jobs and still being active in the Community and Volunteering. What I should also mention is that my Bachelor of Nursing actually provided me additional unique benefits that I was initially not expecting and will now take with me long into the future - namely being successful in attaining a Student Registered Nurse position in the Inaugural National Ramsay Health Cadetship Proagram at John Flynn Private Hospital (Tugun) plus travelling overseas to Vietnam to help run health clinics in remote villages all in my final year of study! I am now a Registered Nurse in the biggest hospital in the State of Queensland, Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

I have been fortunate and able to practice in all the abovementioned fields since completion, and am now practicing in my dream role as a Registered Nurse. This is all thanks to my time and connection with Griffith University. Thanks Griffith!
