DescriptionI bet that since you were a kid, people told you to be polite, not to be rude. But is being polite holding your social interactions back? Recent research has found that Australians tend to make fun of people within the first 10 seconds of meeting them. That means that strangers are teasing each other before they've even had the chance to introduce themselves. In our culture, knowing when and how it's appropriate to be inappropriate can be just as valuable as knowing when to be polite. In fact, there's social currency in being inappropriate. Provided you do it in the right way, being rude can display wit and high-level communication skills, but it's a delicate balance. So before you abandon all social graces with your family, friends or even your boss, we need to better understand impoliteness and how it works.
