DescriptionWe often hear people say that the reason they're overweight is because it's in their genes and there's nothing they can do about it. But is it really true? Genetic studies have shown us that our genes do play a part in our body mass index or our BMI. In fact, our genes can influence how much body fat we have, where we tend to store our fat and even the types of tastes we prefer. However, these genes tend to interact with our environment. For example, what and how much we eat and how active we are. While we can't control our genes, we do have some control over our environment or our lifestyle. So even with genetic risk factors for obesity, there is something we can do about it.
