DESCRIPTION

DescriptionThis series of photographs depicts the construction of the original Griffith University campus at Nathan, which commenced in 1972.

Designed by Griffith Site Planner Roger Johnson alongside a consortium of architects, the campus was established in Toohey Forest with the philosophy of preserving the integrity of the native environment. A values-led institution from inception, the University founders’ vision sowed the seeds of Griffith’s enduring, deeply rooted commitment to guardianship of our campus ecosystems.

This photograph pictures two of Griffith University’s founders attending the development site: Professor John Willett (L), foundation Vice Chancellor, and Leonard Butts C.B.E.
