This image (taken in the mid-late 1970's facing south) showing the central pathway running through the University which at the time, was named 'The Spine' or 'Spine Path'. This path runs north/south through the heart of Nathan Campus and this photo was taken from the northern end. The Spine (changed to Johnson Path in 1993) connects the entire Nathan Campus through a system of pathways and tracks that lead into this thoroughfare.
