Professor Roy Webb was Griffith's second Vice Chancellor. Like foundation Vice Chancellor, Professor John Willett, Professor Webb had been hand-picked by foundation Chancellor, Sir Theodor Bray. Professor Webb had enjoyed a distinguished professional career before taking up his position with Griffith University, including serving as a United Nations economic adviser. Upon his retirement in 2002, he had been the longest serving Vice Chancellor of any Australian University.
