Australia's most powerful computer is installed at Griffith University
The installation of a supercomputer saw the University become home to the (at the time) most powerful computer in Australia. The IBM SP2 Parallel Supercomputer cost $1.3 million dollars in funding and allowed for researchers to carry out large numbers of calculations simultaneously.
